After talking about dance class for what seems like so long now, it was finally time for Olivia's first class! Classes actually started a week ago but she originally was going to take dance through her preschool but upon hearing that the dance teacher may not be returning back from maternity leave, we decided to sign her up somewhere else so she was a week late. But she didn't know the other kids started a week earlier.
After impatiently waiting in the lobby, repeatedly asking "is it time for my class yet?" it was finally time for class to start! She ran right into the room, not even wasting a second to start running wildly with the other girls, not even caring if I was still there or not.
The first half of the class was tap, followed by ballet for the second half. Since we signed her up here last minute, I didn't have a chance to get her tap shoes ahead of time and the studio has a little store they said I'd be able to buy them in so that was the plan. But then the smallest size was a size too big. So I was sad that she didn't have tap shoes with the other kids for the first half of the class. Although, I think I was the only one bothered by it because Olivia didn't seem to mind. Luckily she's good at pretend and just went along with everything in her ballet shoes.
The class started off with them taking roll. Olivia's name wasn't on the list yet so she let them know that her whole name is Olivia Renee Fox and they added her to the roll. Parents were welcome to come sit in the circle if needed, but Olivia was doing just fine on her own. But I of course stayed to watch the class along with Nana who surprised us by being there when we showed up. I guess there were a few of us excited about Olivia's first day of class!
I didn't take much tap so I have no idea if I even remember what any of these moves are but they did what I think was a brush, or as the teacher put it, they squashed bugs.
They did some stomping horse prodding.
And some other basic moves like shuffles making a lot of noise.
Then it was time for everyone but Olivia to change into their ballet shoes and to tuck the strings into the shoes.
They walked tip toe like princesses wearing heals, with their arms in fifth position.
They did some low kicks across the floor while holding their dresses skirts. I missed a picture of this so you get another princess walk picture.
And they did a few more moves across the floor that I can't really remember.
At the end of class, they played a cute game with Princesses and Bears. Olivia first got to be a sleeping bear.
That got to chase the princesses who snuck up on her. But she wasn't very fast.
Then she got to be a Princess who snuck up on the bears.
And quickly ran from them! She really liked this game and had to show it to daddy right when we got home, along with other moves she learned.
At the very end, the kids all held hands in a circle...
And curtsied. And today we are headed off to go get tap shoes so she will be completely ready for her 2nd dance class.
