Crawfish, Dancing and Fevers...oh my!

We were very excited to get to go to the crawfish festival this weekend. We've tried to go for the past couple years now, but we always had other plans that kept us from going. The crawfish were very cajun, but very yummy.

Wow, that crawfish is lobster sized for Olivia!
Olivia also used her stroller without the carrier portion for the first time. She's getting so big!

And of course, she has to make sure to keep the sun out of her eyes.

We met up with several friends at the Crawfish Festival - The Sasine Family, McGee Family, Black Family and Rebecca aka Aunt Kitty.

Andrew is one lucky little boy to get to grow up with all these pretty little ladies. Maybe one day, one of us will have a boy for him to play with!

I'm not sure what Aunt Kitty had on her arm, but whatever it was, Olivia thought it tasted yummy so she decided to lick her arm.

After crawfish and some strolling around in the sun, Olivia was worn out. This was her first time being out in the sun for an extended length of time so I made sure she was covered in SPF 50 sunblock - with her fair skin, it would only be a matter of minutes before she would be as red as the crawfish!

This is what a mixture of sweat and sunblock will do to your hair by the end of the day.

On Sunday, Olivia got to watch her first dance recital. We went to see Heather's little girl Eva, aka Eva Diva, perform a jazz routine to "Lets Get Together" in her very first recital! Hopefully Olivia won't be watching too many recitals because she'll be the one performing in them. She really enjoyed watching the dancing as she has been really fascinated by movement and sound lately. She was not a big fan of the clapping in between the dances however.

Unfortunately the week wasn't as fun filled as the weekend was for Olivia. On Tuesday, Olivia had to be picked up from daycare because she had a fever. I didn't get the call when daycare called me because I was in an all staff meeting at the time where they were announcing that they had made more layoffs that morning! This is the second round they have made this year! Although this round of layoffs was small compared to the first round, we lost some very valuable people which makes it a little scary on my end because they obviously aren't doing lay offs based off performance, but rather where they can cut costs! Needless to say, I had Jared stay with her for the day because I didn't feel it was the right moment to leave work.

I had thought Olivia looked a little feverish that morning because her cheeks were rosy and she felt warm, but when I took her temperature, it was normal. I just thought she might have gotten some sun over the weekend since the weather had been so nice. I soon learned that taking her temperature under her armpit, it not very accurate for her and later that night had to learn how to take her temperature from the other end. Surprisingly, she didn't mind having a thermometer stuck up there.

After Jared picked Olivia up from daycare, he took her to see her Pediatrician, Dr. Shrouds. Dr. Shrouds became worried when they checked her white blood cell count and it was high, but she had no symptoms besides a fever. He was worried that she may have something that she hasn't yet been vaccinated for since her next round of shots isn't until her 4 month appointment so they had to draw blood. I am very thankful that it was Jared with her at the appointment and not me because you probably don't even want to imagine what taking blood from a baby is like - at least I don't. Luckily all the test results came back normal and after a shot of antibodies in each leg, Olivia was sent home and her fever was gone by the next day. I did stay home with her the next day to make sure she was well rested and because she had to go back to Dr. Shrouds for him to test her white blood cell count which he was happy to see was normal and determined she must have just had a little virus.

A pitiful looking Olivia after spending hours in the doctor's office.

Dr. Shrouds did give Olivia a present of a bib with her initial monogrammed. The present was actually meant for her 4 month appointment, but he decided to give it to her early.

I am happy to say that it's almost been 2 successful weeks in a row that Olivia hasn't slept in her straight jacket (swaddle) and she is still sleeping just as good without it. She now sleeps in her sleep blanket until she is old enough to sleep with regular blankets.
